Juris Dumpis has been in private practice since 1983 representing individuals charged with crime in adult and juvenile court in San Mateo County and the San Francisco Bay Area. He has represented thousands of clients charged with offenses ranging from minor traffic infractions to murder.
Mr. Dumpis graduated with High Honors from the University of California, Santa
Barbara in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. It was as an undergraduate that Juris Dumpis developed a profound devotion to individual rights. He witnessed the abrogation of civil rights and the deployment of police brutality during the Isla Vista riots of 1970.
Upon graduation in 1972 Juris Dumpis commenced with Ph.D. studies in European
History at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. After leaving the Ph.D. program he entered law school in 1978 at San Francisco Law School. Working by day and attending classes at night Mr. Dumpis earned his law degree in 1982.
Memory of the events surrounding the Isla Vista riots, graduate studies and law
school prompted Juris Dumpis to enter the field of criminal and juvenile defense. He has been representing individuals accused of crime in both adult and juvenile court from the very beginning of his law career. Along the way he has also been involved in representing people who have been injured by the willful or negligent acts of individuals, corporations and public entities.
While defending the rights of the accused and victims of governmental excess Juris Dumpis has continued to pursue his interest in art and music. As an artist and art collector he has followed the developments in the art world for the last 30 years with a particular interest in the rights of artists, transfers of art, ownership of art and related legal issues.
In his spare time Juris Dumpis is a printmaker and pianist, avocations that require
ongoing practice. He is married with two adult daughters.
