JANIS L. BLOUGH grew up in west Michigan and attended Michigan State University (BA, Humanities Pre-Law, w/high honors,1973). She earned her juris doctor w/honors from Wayne State University Law School in 1976, and was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan that same year. She has practiced law in the greater Lansing area ever since, serving 3Â½ years on the Court of Appeals Research Division staff & 11+ years as an Assistant Prosecutor in both Eaton and Ingham Counties.
While in government service, Ms. Blough was very active in bar association activities, local, state and national. In 1991-1992, her involvement peaked when she served as President of the National Association of Women Lawyers. She is also a published author: While still in law school, Ms. Blough contributed an article in the Wayne Law Review (1975), and later served on its editorial board. She has also contributed several chapters to INTRODUCING EVIDENCE, (ICLE, 1988 and more recent updates, including 2007). Ms. Blough also served as an adjunct professor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Lansing, MI, where she taught legal research, writing, and advocacy over several semesters.
After leaving government work in 1991, Ms. Blough began a private practice, focusing on the area of domestic relations. Over the years, her practice has become more generalized, and she currently handles a broad spectrum of matters in the areas of family law (divorce, custody, support, interstate cases), real estate, probate, wills, trusts, powers of attorney, criminal and traffic matters, and others as the need arises.
