Firm: Law Office of James D. Pacitti
Located in the heart of the entertainment capital of the world, the Law Office of James D. Pacitti provides legal services to clients in the entertainment industry, specifically in the areas of TV and film production. Past and present clients include production companies, film producers, writers, directors, actors and other entertainment professionals. The firm provides the highest quality representation at a fraction of the cost of traditional firms by emphasizing the development of long term relationships and not short term profits from individual matters. Our clients are committed professionals who plan to have long careers in the entertainment industry. It is our goal to represent them throughout their careers, not for just one project.
The firm handles all legal and business aspects of independent film production including financing, corporate formation, performer, director and writer agreements, union and guild collective bargaining agreements, copyright issues and distribution (see Practice Areas for more details).
The initial consultation is always complimentary. At the conclusion of the initial consultation, all clients are provided a comprehensive assessment of their legal needs, the time involved to provide the proposed services and the projected costs.
James Pacitti has been practicing law since graduating from Fordham University School of Law in New York City in 1995. During his fourteen years of practice, Jim has been admitted and licensed to practice in California, Florida, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
Jim attended undergrad at Northeastern University in Boston, graduating with honors. While at Northeastern, Jim worked at Fish and Richardson, in the patent litigation department. During law school, Jim worked on Wall Street in the corporate securities department of Seward & Kissel. After law school, Jim was a staff attorney at Safeguard Scientifics in Philadelphia practicing corporate securities and finance.
After several years of corporate practice, Jim craved trial work and left venture capital to try cases for the government. After three years of government work, Jim returned to private practice and began working with entertainment professionals, especially independent filmmakers.
In addition to practicing entertainment and transactional law, Jim has vast civil litigation experience and has tried dozens of cases during his career. Jim’s broad experience provides him with a unique perspective which he uses to help his client’s avoid the many pitfalls awaiting in the often treacherous world of entertainment. With experience in corporate securities and finance, commercial transactions and civil litigation, Jim is able to guide his clients to avoid those situations that will expose them to unnecessary liability and expense.
Jim's practice is limited to entertainment law and intellectual property. He is a member of the California, Florida, New York and Pennsylvania bars.
