Practice Overview:
My practice is largely limited to personal injury and wrongful death claims. (I am a former insurance defense attorney). I practiced in metro Atlanta until 2000. My office has been located in Athens since 2000. I regularly represent clients throughout north and middle Georgia, including the Athens/Atlanta area. Potential clients and clients are not required to travel to Athens for meetings, depositions, etc. Free thorough initial telephone, office, and home consultations are provided.

Personal attention to each client is critical to me. I am focused on returning my clients’ phone calls and e-mails promptly, and keeping them regularly advised of their case. Clients only communicate with me, not staff. I provide my cell phone number to clients for emergencies.

I have extensive experience in representing clients with numerous injuries-such as brain injury, neck and back herniated discs, ear and balance disorders, shoulder and hip fractures, burns, severe scars, and psychological injury. In addition to automobile accidents and premises injuries, I focus on tractor-trailer collisions and injuries.

Additionally, I represent clients concerning pedestrian accidents, slip and fall injuries, animal attacks, certain products liability claims, legal malpractice claims involving dishonesty and failure to communicate, and claims against third-party debt collectors under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Personal injury cases are handled on a contingency fee basis, which are normally 33 1/3% of the total recovery whether or not the claim is resolved by settlement or trial. On some difficult cases, including most premises liability claims, the attorney fee percentage may be 40% in the event of a trial or, in very difficult cases, in the event a deposition is taken after suit is filed. In the event of no recovery, there is no attorney fees assessed. In addition to attorneys fees, the client is responsible for litigation and claim expenses, such as court reporter fees, filing fees, obtaining medical records, and expert witness and doctor fees ( for their time in providing testimony).

Professional Profile:
Following law school, I served as a judicial law clerk (staff attorney) for Judges Crumbley, Ison, Boswell, and Kilpatrick in the Superior Court of Clayton County, Georgia. (A law clerk, normally a newly admitted attorney, performs research and provides legal opinions to judges). Following my clerkship, I was employed with the insurance defense law firm of Irwin, Bladen, Baker & Russell, in Atlanta, Georgia. My position involved the defense of clients accused of negligence, including automobile and tractor-trailer collisions, premises liability disputes, slander, and false arrests.

I was a panel arbitrator for the Fulton County Superior and State courts from 1989 until 2000. (I have been trained and Certified in Georgia as a civil mediator). For many years I have been a civil mediator with the Cobb County Superior Courts’ Alternative Dispute Resolution Program. Since 2008, I have been a civil mediator with the Gwinnett County Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.
