She has devoted a substantial portion of her legal career to defense work in the health care field with an emphasis on representation of licensed health care provider clients, both individual and institutional, in administrative and civil litigation proceedings.
Ms. Phillips has worked within the field of health care since graduating from the Presbyterian University Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, working in the cardiac transplantation and open heart surgery unit at Presbyterian University Hospital, before relocating to California where she continued her clinical practice in the CCU/Cardiac Research Unit at University of California at San Diego Medical Center.
Relocating to the San Francisco area, she worked in cardiac transplantation, open heart surgery and pulmonary intensive care units at Stanford Medical Center before completing training as a Cardiovascular Nurse Specialist at St. Lukeâ€™s Episcopal Hospital-Texas Medical Center of Houston. Before completing her JD, she held positions of clinical leadership at St. Lukeâ€™s Hospital and Mt. Zion Hospital in San Francisco, Herrick Hospital in Berkeley, Valley Care Medical Center in Livermore, and San Ramon Rehabilitation Hospital, San Ramon, California.
She graduated from John F. Kennedy University School of Law, Walnut Creek, California, and served as a certified law clerk in a boutique civil litigation firm in San Francisco prior to graduation. She began her second professional career as co-counsel to lead attorney Lee Bardellini in a successful jury trial in Santa Clara County Superior Court in 1993. She has since achieved favorable outcomes for her clients in dozens of trials, arbitrations and mediations in both medical malpractice defense and administrative disciplinary actions.
